Summary:
Pranathi Brahmandam lives in San Rafael and have been teaching middle schoolers in formal and informal settings for a few years now. She is excited for this class, as she feels it’s important to send our children out into the world with some basic ideas of Hinduism to guide them on their life’s journey. In this four-part series, she will be exploring a few questions that lend themselves to philosophic discussion, incorporating pertinent Hindu ideas and concepts along the way. These will be interactive sessions where students will be encouraged to chime in with their thoughts. We will look at simple questions like ‘Is it ok to steal to help a starving person?’. The idea is to connect the question to broader themes like ‘Do the ends justify the means’ and discuss some ideas from Hinduism (and maybe other schools across the world) that can guide us toward potential answers that can make sense to each student in their own way. In the spirit of Hindu philosophical discourse (Tarka Shastra), debate, discussion and an open mind will be cultivated, as well as the idea that there may sometimes not be one single correct answer.
