About the event
Karthika Deepam is a festival of lights that is observed in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Karnataka, and Sri Lanka. Rows of agal vilakkus (clay oil lamps) are lit in the houses of adherents in celebration of this festival, to ward off evil and usher in prosperity and joy. Additionally, this festival celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters (similar to Raksha Bandhan). On the occasion of Kartikai Pournami (full moon of the Kārtikai month) oil lamps with 365 wicks, prepared at home, are lit in Shiva temples. Similarly, we will light wicks at the temple to celebrate the occasion.
