NBIAA-NBHC Diwali (Nov 12-14)

This Diwali, NBIAA teams up with NBHC to bring you events each day from Nov 12 -15. Each day we plan to broadcast the following events via NBIAA Facebook Live:

  1. spiritual significance of that Diwali day lead by NBHC

  2. showcase of how Diwali is celebrated by a few local families

  3. a mix of cultural and entertaining events, games and competitions.

We invite families to participate in an informal showcase of how they celebrate Diwali. You could submit videos of your home celebration or pictures. We also invite submissions of cultural programs from the community. It could be dance, singing, music or skits by adults and/or kids. Please sign up for performances or for opening up your home here

Competitions and Games!!!

Get involved and take part in a competition this Diwali! 

Rangoli competition

Take part in Rangoli competition and turn in a picture of your colorful creations here by 2 pm Nov 14. All mediums of rangoli; chalk, color powder, rice powder, are welcome and all ages too! If you are new to Rangoli, watch for a Rangoli tutorial we will be putting together. Then practice your newly-learned skills and turn in a photo of your Rangoli here. Kids are especially encouraged to take part in this competition. Our volunteer judges; Hema, Monica and Sonal, will pick the winners from different age groups and winners will be announced during the evening portion of our events on Nov 14. Don’t wait, turn in your rangoli picture soon!

Best-dressed competition

Dress up in your Diwail best, take some pictures and turn it in here to take part in this competition. Simple as that. Our Youth Committee will pick winners the following category; best-dressed man, best-dressed woman, best-dressed senior and best-dressed kid. Deadline: 2 pm Nov 14

Best Diwali Decorations Turn in a picture of your outdoor Diwali decorations here to compete for the best decorated house award. Deadline for turning in a picture is 2 pm Nov 14.


Men's cooking competition

Five men from the community who know their way around a skillet will prepare a Diwali mithai and make a video recording of the process. Their culinary creations will be judged by a team of women. You will get to cast your vote for your favorite chef based on their video presentation. The winner who made the tastiest mithai and who got the most votes will be announced on Nov 14. How fun!
